These white beads are a bit of a mystery. They have been found in many places associated with the ancient world, and are often called “Byzantine beads”. Dating them has been a matter of some controversy. Some bead historians believe they are an early type of glass from powdered raw silicate and date from 300 to 500 AD. Others believe they are Northern European circa 1,500 to 1,600 AD.
Whatever they are, they have a great presence.
