This is a segment of a Late Medieval pectoral decoration known as a collar of office, also known as a livery collar. They were worn as an insignia of office or a mark of fealty or other association in Europe from the Middle Ages onwards. It is made of silver and plated with gold. Much of the original plating remains. Fantastically rich decoration.

Strung with modern garnet and brass beads. The clasp is PermaGold, a highly durable 24 kt gold plate with a lifetime guarantee against tarnishing.
