The centerpiece of this necklace is a Roman or Celtic axe pendant made of silver with engraved decoration. The pendant was found in the area of ancient Noricum, which is the Latin name for a Celtic kingdom, or federation of tribes, which included most of modern Austria and part of Slovenia. Noricum was incorporated into the Roman Empire in 16 BC. This amulet was acquired from an Austrian collection.
